A Place Worth Preserving

There are places that quietly tell the story of a community. KP Mountain View Cemetery is one of those places.

For more than a century, this peaceful cemetery has overlooked the mountains and farmland between the communities of Junior and Weaver, West Virginia. Within its grounds rest generations of families, neighbors, and veterans whose lives helped shape the community we know today.

For us, this cemetery is more than a historic landmark. It is where our families' stories come together. My parents are buried here, along with many relatives from my family tree. Several members of my husband's family also rest here. It has become a place of remembrance, reflection, and peace for our family.

Established in 1902, KP Mountain View Cemetery is the final resting place of many of the families who helped build this area. More than seventy veterans are buried here, representing service from the Civil War through World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and more recent conflicts. Their dedication and sacrifice remain an important part of our local history.

Like many historic cemeteries, KP Mountain View Cemetery has not been untouched by time. More than a century has passed since the first trees were planted. Over the years, they have provided beauty, shade, and a peaceful setting for families visiting loved ones. Today, however, their age has become one of our greatest challenges. Their roots are damaging the cemetery roads, while aging trunks and heavy limbs threaten the historic headstones below. While difficult decisions lie ahead, every decision we make is guided by one goal—to protect the beauty, history, and peaceful spirit of this special place for generations to come.

That is why Friends of KP Cemetery, Inc. was formed. Friends of KP was created to restore, preserve, and protect this special place, ensuring it remains a place of remembrance, reflection, and peace for generations to come.

Over the coming months, we'll share our journey through restoration projects, the history of the cemetery, stories of the families buried here, tributes to the heroes who served our country, and updates as we work to preserve this peaceful place overlooking the mountains we proudly call home.
